The stairs are finished. 100 year old fir reclaimed from the demolition—full of iron nails, holes, knots—milled into smooth boards and oiled with teak oil. Steel stringers add structure and a plexiglass rail offers safety while preserving light and sightlines.
They’re very smooth and warm to the touch. Damage to them can simply be sanded and oiled. They glow a warm rich orange and have great character, tying the repurposed wood’s modern design to the original century-old structure.
